Posted on September 03, 2024
Macleans College recently entered the EPro8 inter-school science and engineering competition for the first time.
Every year over 25,000 students from throughout New Zealand take part. EPro8 is designed to promote science, engineering and problem solving.
Team Mac Attack consisted of Joseph Zhang (Batten House), William Wang (Mansfield), Benjamin McLaren (Rutherford) and Behrad Etemadipour (Batten).
Each team was allocated a workstation, which contained an impressive assortment of equipment, including gears, wheels, pulleys, joiners, nuts and bolts, tools, aluminium framing, motors and electronics.
The challenges presented to the students included building a roller coaster, scooter, air conditioning and a washing machine - within a given timeframe.
Team Mac Attack displayed great teamwork, excitement and drive; it was great to see them enjoying themselves while competing and learning. This event provided the students with an opportunity to get involved and learn about science, technology, engineering and mathematics in a practical manner.
Competing against other east-central schools, Team Mac Attack placed eighth overall.
