Economics students visit respected New Zealand Company
Posted on July 29, 2019
On Wednesday 24 July a group of senior Economics students travelled the short distance to Tip Top corner in Mt Wellington to discover how New Zealand’s favourite ice cream is manufactured.
Concerned about its recent sale to a United Kingdom based firm, the students were pleased to discover that it is business as usual at this iconic Kiwi institution.
Even with over 170 flavours to choose from, the top four flavours for scooped ice cream remain; Vanilla, Hokey Pokey, Boysenberry Ripple and Cookies & Cream.
Additional facts the students discovered were the willingness of consumers in China to pay $25 to have a 2L tub of Tip Top ice cream delivered to their door; such is the reputation of its quality, fresh ingredients. Workers on the assembly floor rotate jobs every 15 minutes. Input from consumers is highly regarded and encouraged by the firm. When they started receiving comments via social media questioning the flavour of their Cookies & Cream ice cream, Tip Top investigated and discovered the firm making their cookies had modified the recipe. After a seven-month process a new supplier was secured and Cookies & Cream kicked back into operation to the delight of their loyal customers.
