The Past and Present Art Exhibition, held on Thursday 17 June at Macleans College showcased a diverse range of work produced by current and past students of the Visual Arts and Textiles.

The works by current students presented for the exhibition were produced using wide ranging processes, materials and techniques. Included in the area of design were beautifully conceptualised and constructed textiles products, bold graphic design pieces with communication at the forefront and highly accomplished digital animation works.

In the show, painting works explored not only engaging subject matter but also investigated materials, for example the potential of chemical reactions between acrylic paint and silicone products. Photographic works pushed the possibilities of digital photography, in some cases branching into digital printmaking processes and moving image processes.

The Art Department was fortunate to be able to present work by a selection of past students who have gone on to work in a diverse range of creative roles throughout their careers. A common thread which ran through their updates was the acknowledgement of how their studies in art at secondary school level had provided a foundation for creative thinking and resourcefulness.

The event drew a great audience which provided students with the experience of their work being viewed by others outside of the classroom environment. A raffle was held and drawn on the night which was won by Mr Middleton.
