Design and Technology students gain experience at Weta Unleashed

On Tuesday 13 June, the A Level and Year 13 students from the AS Design and Technology class attended Weta Unleashed in Auckland city.

This group of students are currently working on a range of different designs from architecture, product, spatial and transport concepts for their projects.

The students experienced the design process that Weta Workshop employs to bring their world-class movie design and effects to life. They received hands on experiences with the processes that the designers use such as foam sculpting, tin foil marquettes, moulding and much more. The quality of Weta Workshop’s research, conceptualisation and painstaking attention to detail impressed the students and was highly motivating.

After the tour of three different genres of film, the students undertook a workshop for building a fantasy landscape. This helped prepare the students for their final models that they will have to create to exhibit their final design solution to a brief.
