Posted on June 22, 2018
Four Macleans choirs took to the stage at this year’s Big Sing regional competition.
A wide array of repertoire was performed that explored a variety of different languages, including; French, Latin, Samoan, Estonian and Te Reo.
The all comers choir, Men of Macleans were entirely student led this year, with Jonathan Shaw (Batten House) and Hamish Regan (Rutherford) taking up the conducting duties. The Men of Macleans also premiered a new composition written by Hamish Regan entitled Lullaby of Lover's Lost, which featured a variety of specialist percussion instruments.
Other highlights were the highly energetic Pacifica contributions by Cantabile and Macleans College Chorale of Samoan works arranged by Steven Rapana. M.C.C were in particularly fine form with their rendition of Malie, Tagifa for which they were awarded the Leo Pacifica Award - an award presented for the most outstanding performance of a work that uses a text in a Pacifica language.
Macleans College Chorale received a highly commended award overall with Cantabile receiving a commended award. The choir will now eagerly await the announcement of national finalists.
