Cultural knowledge tested at Japanese Quiz Championships
Posted on June 28, 2022
Macleans College was represented by two teams of Year 10 Japanese language students at the Japanese Trivia Quiz Championships held at Epsom Girls’ Grammar School.
The event is a unique championship held across eight venues in Auckland, Manawatu, Hawkes Bay, Wellington, Tasman, Canterbury, Otago and Southland. The students are provided with an opportunity to use their cultural knowledge for a real purpose together with other students of Japanese that they would not normally have an opportunity to mix with. The end goal is for students to acquire extra motivation with fun to continue with their studies of Japanese at school and beyond.
The students who took part were Danny Ge (Snell House), Thomas Han (Snell), Lakshmi Thilakeswaran (Te Kanawa), Wendi Wang (Kupe), Chloe Bonner (Hillary), Doreen Li (Rutherford), Caitlin Ong (Rutherford) and Christina Panther (Hillary).
The students enjoyed the evening in a bustling atmosphere with prizes and Japanese snacks provided by NZAJLT (New Zealand Association of Japanese Language Teachers).
