Cultural heritage proudly displayed at Flag Pageant

On the final day of Term 2, the annual Macleans College Flag Pageant was held at the school assembly.
As diversity has grown within the school, an increase in proud students wishing to take part in the Flag Pageant resulted in 20 additional nations being represented this year. At this assembly unity and cultural diversity took centre stage as students and staff participated, making it a vibrant celebration of culture and colour.
Over 80 flags were flown with participants dressed in traditional attire walking proudly to music. As students waved their flags through the assembly, executive members of the Inter Cultural Committee (ICC) announced their countries and students walked in a fashion like that of an Olympic Games opening ceremony.
The final three flags flown were the New Zealand flag, Māori flag and Macleans College flag while the school sang the national anthem. This symbol of unification and pride brought tears to many eyes and teachers and students alike were brimming with pride.
The school would like to thank Ms Tuialii for her organisation of the Flag Pageant and considerable work behind the scenes.
