Bronte Croad 12BIU has won the Counties Manukau Sports Volunteer of the Year Award.
She was one of 37 nominees from Secondary Schools, Clubs and Organisations within the Howick/Pakuranga Ward.
Bronte is the Captain of Macleans College’s 52 strong Aerobics Team. She has been recognised for the exceptional number of hours she gave to coaching and leading the aerobics teams at Macleans College. This year Bronte has taken hourly sessions each Tuesday and Thursday from 7.00 am to 8.00 am. Closer to competition time, she also took sessions after school.
Her work also included setting up the aerobics routines and music for the three levels the school competes in. Along with this she has also liaised with the six other student coaches and then worked on her own competitive routine for the competitions where she was placed 1st in the trio event and 2nd in the individual performance event. At these competitions Bronte supervised makeup and hair styles and encouraged competitors in every performance, then went on to compete herself.
The students she coached for aerobics gained several placings, including many first places at both the Regional and National Gymsports Championships this year.
Mr Eddie Jones, Regional Sports Director for Counties Manukau Sport, said: “Counties Manukau Sport recognises the work that all volunteers do for their organisations and Bronte stood out for her outstanding commitment for someone of her age. She along with the winners of the other volunteer awards from Manurewa/Papakura, Papatoetoe/Otara, Mangere/Otahuhu and of course Howick/Pakuranga have been nominated for the supreme award at this year’s Sporting Excellence Awards to be held in November at the Vodafone Events Centre”.
