Composers Workshop with Ace Brass

Senior music students had the privilege of working with professional musicians last week, as members of the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra: Huw Dann (Trumpet), Emma Richards (Horn) and John Gluyas (Trombone) spent an afternoon workshopping and giving advice on their recent compositional work.

The Trio, Ace Brass, gave helpful tips to students about how to write for brass trio and how to create varying timbres and moods through their music.

This was a wonderful opportunity to hear their music performed by live musicians and receive feedback on the positives and negatives of their work.

The students now have the opportunity to make adjustments and changes to their work based on the feedback, before the trio returns in Term 3 to make a live recording for each student to send off for external examination.
