Four Macleans College students have been selected to represent New Zealand at the Commonwealth Junior and Cadet Fencing Championships, to be held in Christchurch from 12 - 19 July.
The selections were made from the past two years' competition results and are the culmination of consistent hard work and dedication.
Year 13 student Gisele Lau (Te Kanawa House) has been selected out of 20 candidates to join the three member U20 Women’s Sabre squad.
Year 11 student Larry Lin (Batten) has been selected out of 78 candidates to join the five member U17 Men’s Foil squad. He has also been selected out of 48 candidates to join the five member U20 Men’s Foil squad. This is a phenomenal achievement, given that Larry is only 15 years old.
Upham House siblings: Year 9 student Harry Zhou and Year 10 student Maxwell Chen, have both been selected out of 29 candidates to participate in the three member U17 Men’s Sabre squad. Again, given their ages of only 13 and 14 respectively, these are incredible achievements. Maxwell has also been selected as a reserve for the Men’s U17 Foil squad.
