Commerce students take part in Dragons’ Den style event
Posted on November 27, 2020
On Tuesday 24 November, Year 10 Commerce students had an opportunity to pitch a social enterprise to investors in a dragons’ den style event at the Bentley Pavilion.
After reaching the finals, eight teams had five minutes to deliver a concise and engaging presentation of their business plan, after which a panel of judges took time to ask the students questions and allocate marks.
The judges included former students Hamish Regan (Rutherford House 2014 – 2018) and Cecilia Zhang (Mansfield House 2015 - 2017). Hamish was Head Boy in 2018 and is currently studying Accounting, Commercial Law and Classical Performance Voice at Auckland University. Cecilia Zhang, who is also at Auckland University, is majoring in Marketing, Management and Classical Performance Voice.
The pitch session provided students with an excellent opportunity to present their ideas to a live audience and to receive valuable advice from judges.
Overall, Kaimmunity placed first, with Zed Skills and Brio Fitness finishing 2nd and 3rd. Kaimmunity is a social enterprise that aimed to deliver inexpensive healthy food from a diverse range of cultures. The winning team of Arren Guanzon (10HEEB), Seth Parlane (10BASM), Xin Lan Hu (10HEEB), and Eric Xie (10BASM) received $25 each in prize money. Well done to everyone that took part.
