Combined Points Netball Tournament 2020
Posted on August 14, 2020
On Wednesday 5 August the Macleans College Premier and 9A Netball teams competed in the Combined Points Tournament held at the Auckland Netball Centre.
Premier
The Premier team, led by coaches Sally Meale and Miss Toni Rinckes, claimed a confident 16 goal win against Kristin College to start the day. The team then battled out against rivals Botany Downs Secondary College resulting in a 2 goal loss at the end.
With a short turnaround of 20 minutes between games, the team went on to claim a convincing win against Mount Roskill Girls Grammar. They then prepared for a challenging game against Cambridge High School. The game resulted in a draw.
Lastly, the team came up against Baradene College, one of the strongest teams in the competition. The game remained close throughout the entire 20 minutes, with Baradene College only just getting away with a six goal lead in the last few minutes. The girls should be proud of their efforts competing with one of the best netball secondary school teams in New Zealand.
The team had a great day out playing as they prepare for their Saturday competition in the Premier 1 grade at Auckland Netball Centre. Thank you to team manager Mrs Bigwood for her work.
Players - Gemma Richards (Kupe House), Riahna Crozier (Te Kanawa), Emmeline Reynolds (Rutherford), Aneka Maea (Upham), Bobbi Passau (Rutherford), Lily Cattermoul (Hillary), Morgan Gray (Hillary), McKenzie Smith (Upham), Chloe Bell (Snell), Emma Hewetson (Rutherford).
9A
The 9A team, led by coach Mrs Kate Kingsley, were excited to play teams from outside their pool of Saturday games and develop their skills at the Combined Points Tournament.
The first game was against the eventual runners-up, Westlake Girls’ High School. The North Shore players were quick out of the blocks and it took a few minutes for the Macleans College team to adjust to the fast pace, leaving it too late to make a major dent in the goal deficit.
Macleans College took the convincing win in the second game against Huanui College. The third game against Aorere College was tight from beginning to end. Despite excellent shooting from Carmen de Villiers and tight defence throughout the court, the team lost by two goals.
The final match for the day was against the local rival, Sancta Maria College. This would be a tough match. However, the team left nothing to chance, working hard and winning by four goals.
Players – Mia Young (Mansfield), Paige Irvine (Kupe), Carmen de Villiers (Rutherford), Alex McKenzie (Rutherford), Mulan Chan See (Snell), Summer Roberts (Upham), Daisy McAuley (Upham), Freya Sawant (Rutherford), Olivia Brown (Snell).
