Macleans College Chorale earn gold award at World Choir Games
Posted on August 08, 2024
The Macleans College Chorale competed in the 13th World Choir Games, held last month in Auckland.
The event included over 11,000 participants and 250 choirs representing 42 nations from around the world.
The Chorale performed for a panel of five international judges at the Kiri Te Kanawa Theatre, earning a gold award in the Open Secondary Schools category. The choir only missed out on winning the category by less than one point. This accomplishment will allow Macleans College to compete in the prestigious champions competition of the choral games and other international festivals in the years to come.
The Chorale also sang as part of the Festival Stage Choir, a massed choir of over 600 singers that presented a 30 minute concert at Spark Arena alongside Auckland Philharmonia for the closing ceremony of the games.
The experience was enriching and fun for all. The students embraced the honour to represent Macleans College and New Zealand at the games this year.
