Cheque for Howick RSA

Upham House at Macleans College presented the Howick Returned Services Association with a cheque for $5,000 during their house assembly on 17 February.

Immediate Past President Mike Cole and Vice Chairman Colin Smith received the gift on behalf of the RSA.

Upham House Service Captain Sam Jansson-Bush thanked them for attending and explained that the money was raised last year by having a festival, a number of second-hand clothing sales and the selling of food and ice-cream.

Service Captain Tamanna Bhatia added that these fundraising activities were organised by last year’s Service Captains Aishwarya Gopalakrishnan and Andy Kwak.

Mr Smith thanked the school and said the money would be used by the Welfare Committee.

He paid tribute to the students’ efforts and said their contribution made a significant difference to many of the elderly servicemen and servicewomen.

Mike Cole said part of the money was also used to fund a university scholarship and was available to an Upham student.

Upham House has a long association with the Howick RSA assisting with the selling of poppies, visiting pensioners and maintenance at the Fencible flats.

The eight Whanau houses at Macleans College undertake fund raising events for a variety of charities.
