Career Evening 2018
Posted on June 19, 2018
The recent Career Evening had over 90 presenters from outside of school, representing over 40 different organisations and educational institutes.
This enabled the over 800 students and parents who attended to explore a great array of opportunities around their future directions.
The variable weather was a deterrent for some, but those who came along were able to gain further information so they can make informed choices around their future pathway beyond school. The future world of work is definitely changing and therefore it is important for parents and students to be informed so they can make decisions pertinent to their future. An open letter to NZ from the ASB/KPMG Strategic Insights Panel says, ‘While traditional tertiary education has its place, it is one of many pathways to employment. Internships, apprenticeships, new micro-credentials, on the job training, online courses and badging are all effective ways to learn’.
At the Macleans College Careers Evening on Tuesday 12 June, the variety of educational institutes who offer certificate through to degree and postgraduate study, as well as apprenticeship, exchange and volunteer organisations who attended, gave Macleans College students the opportunity to explore how and where their pathway may go.
