The Macleans College Science Department took 91 Year 13 Biology students on a trip to Auckland Zoo on Monday 26 August.

The visit was linked to Level 3 Biology Achievement Standard 91606 (3.6) – demonstrate an understanding of trends in human evolution.

The students started with a session involving an interactive comparison of primate skulls and skeletons in which they had to answer a question challenge; are you Team quadruped or Team biped? This was followed by time spent exploring the biological and cultural trends working with a range of replica hominin skulls and tools.

The students then spent the rest of the day exploring the zoo and observing primate behaviour.

The students will now use and apply all the insights and information gained from this visit in their upcoming external exam.
