Auckland Schools Golf Individual Strokeplay Championships

Last week the Premier Golf team travelled to the Waitemata Golf Club in Devonport to take part in the Auckland Schools’ Individual Strokeplay Championship.
It was a beautiful autumn day with sunshine and warm temperatures making it a perfect day for golf. With over 120 participants from both sides of the bridge, and a number of New Zealand Golf representatives attending, the standard of competition was at an incredibly high level.
Macleans College were thrilled with the quality of golf produced by our team with Mark Li (Mansfield) taking out 2nd place in the Nett competition (on countback, he finished joint 1st on score alone) to secure his first placing in a major tournament. However, pride of place must go to Connor Barker (Mansfield) who was one of only three golfers to have an under par win and took out the Greater Auckland Region title by a two shot margin. This is a huge achievement and he should be very proud of the quality of play that he produced.
At the end of the tournament the good news continued to flow as the boys were informed of their inclusion in various representative teams.
Jimmy Zheng (Hillary): Auckland Senior Men’s Interprovincial Team and New Zealand Golf Talent Development Programme.
Connor Barker: Auckland Senior Men’s Interprovincial Team.
Henry Wang (Batten): Auckland Junior Men’s Interprovincial Team.
This capped off a tremendous period of success for the team and they are all looking forward to the National Championships in Term Three.
