Macleans College students compete at Auckland School Sprint Orienteering Championships

After six weeks of successfully competing in preliminary rounds, 25 Macleans College students qualified for the Auckland School Sprint Orienteering Championships.
In the championships, Macleans College students were victorious - winning both the girls’ and boys’ Eastern Zone Competition open. All students who finished in the top 10 of their division at this level of the competition were eligible to compete in the Auckland Championships.
The final events for the Auckland Championships took place at Birkenhead College in the morning and Murrays Bay Intermediate in the afternoon.
All Macleans College students successfully completed the event and secured some outstanding results:
- Junior girls: Fleur Findlay (Mansfield House) eighth place
- Junior boys: Cody Tang (Hillary) ninth place
- Intermediate boys: Wesley Lau (Kupe) fifth place
- Intermediate girls: Melody Cai (Kupe) ninth place
- Senior boys: Malachi Teikamata (Hillary) eighth place
Orienteering is a family sport where competitors use maps to complete navigational challenges in unfamiliar areas. It involves both physical and mental challenges.
