Auckland Junior Boys Volleyball Tournament

Posted on November 22, 2018

The Auckland Junior Boys Volleyball Tournament was held from 15 – 17 November at the Bruce Pulman Events Centre in Takanini.

The Auckland region runs from Pukekohe in the South to Wellsford in the North and has over thirty five schools participating in the tournament. It is the biggest event that College Sport runs.

In the first two days, the team played six games winning four. They had a very close game against Manurewa High School who were the eventual winners. This left the Macleans College team playing off for 9th – 12th on the last day, Saturday. Three of the top players including Levi De Jong and Aaryan Raj were unavailable due other sports commitments.  The final placing for the team was 12th, but would have been lower if they had all been available to play.

The team played all year: the Senior Competition in Term One, and Social Competitions in Terms Two, Three and Four.

Randy Jiang’s (Te Kanawa House) coaching throughout the whole year was invaluable.

The team list is below (apart from Bruce Cameron and Noah Rooke who both have broken legs):

  • Jordan Hohneck (Te Kanawa) - captain
  • Christopher Cieplinski (Kupe)
  • Levi De Jong (Snell)
  • Leo Gao (Kupe)
  • Harvey Hanson (Rutherford)
  • Radley Hurst (Hillary)
  • Aaryan Raj (Batten)
  • Edward Taliai (Hillary)
  • John Wang (Te Kanawa)
  • Sam Williams (Batten)
