Auckland Girls’ Chess Championship

On Tuesday 20 July, Mr Chang and Ms Lum took a group of six girls to attend the Auckland Girls’ Chess Championship in the Mt Albert War Memorial Hall.

The girls who took part were Alana McEvoy (Snell House), Malinda Guan (Upham), Anika Pattni (Rutherford), Sophia Liu (Kupe), Sophia Su (Mansfield) and Jaishree Jayanathan (Snell).

This is the first time Macleans College has participated in the Auckland Girls’ Chess Championship. The girls did not compete in teams but played individually in each game.

Approximately 150 girls from year 1 to year 13 from all over Auckland participated. After six fierce and tense rounds of playing in the competition, two Macleans College students achieved the following outstanding results.
