Annual Scholars’ Assembly

The annual Scholars’ Assembly was held at Macleans College on Friday.

The assembly recognised students who had achieved at the highest level in the National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA), the Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) and the New Zealand Qualifications Authority Scholarship Examinations for 2017.

In the 2017 Scholarship examinations students four students gained Outstanding Scholarship Awards and two students achieved Premier Scholarship Awards. There were 167 individual Scholarships gained, including 23 at Outstanding level and two students achieved Top in Subject.

Six students gained High Achievement, 11 achieved Top in New Zealand and 12 gained Top in the World awards at CIE.

The Head Prefects with their parents were introduced to the assembly.

NZQA Premier Scholar Award 2017

Premier Scholarships are awarded to the very top 5 to 10 candidates in New Zealand. The minimum requirement to be considered for this award is at least three Scholarships at “Outstanding” Level. The number of recipients for this award is restricted and achieving the minimum requirement will not guarantee an award.

Premier Scholars receive $10,000 each year for three years as long as they maintain at least a ‘B’ grade average in tertiary study.

Proxime Accessit (Runner up to the Dux) 2017

The Proxime Accessit prize is worth $500 and is awarded to the student who achieved the second highest grades at Macleans College in the annual NZQA Scholarship examinations.

For 2017, this award is presented to Janice Ho.

Dux of Macleans College 2017

The Dux prize for 2017 is awarded to the Macleans student who achieved the highest grades in the annual NZQA Scholarship examinations.

The Dux of Macleans College receives the Allen McDonald Scholarship. This scholarship was established by the Macleans College Parent Teacher Association in recognition of the contribution of Allen McDonald, the second Principal of Macleans College, particularly with regard to the school’s scholastic achievement. The scholarship is worth $1,000.00.

The Macleans College Dux of 2017 and recipient of the Allen McDonald Scholarship is awarded to Ben Zhang.
