2019 Careers Evening a Success
Posted on August 16, 2019
On Wednesday 7 August over 1000 people were involved in the annual Careers Evening.
This year it was held slightly later in the year and Year 11-13 students were invited. For the first time, Year 11 students were encouraged to attend to assist them in gaining direction for their future, including some assistance with subject selections that will need to be completed later this term.
Over 80 people from organisations outside the school attended the evening, giving students and their parents opportunities to hear from and speak with educators as well as people who work in the industries they are interested in.
Many of the industry speakers were ex-Macleans College students and were keen to give back to their school - an Audiologist, Occupational Therapists, Forestry Engineer, Machine Safety Engineer to name a few. There was also the opportunity to speak with those in the Defence Forces and Police, as well as various ITO’s, polytechnics and university personnel.
With 25 different presentations available to students across a wide array of specialities, it gave Macleans College students every opportunity, on their doorstep, to gain good insight into possible future pathways for themselves.
This year was a great success and those who came along were able to gain new insights that were achieved not just from reading prospectuses, but from meeting and hearing from people in roles with real experience.
