Hi, my name is Julia and I am from Brazil. I was given the amazing opportunity to spend some time abroad in a different country and I would like to share this experience with you.
As a Brazilian exchange student who has spent the last six months in this amazing land of kiwis, stunning landscapes, and more sheep than people, I've had my fair share of new adventures, challenges, and friendships. I mean, who knew that trying to understand the obsession with rugby would be so much fun? Watching people tackle each other has never been more entertaining. Seeing people walking around barefoot was a real revelation. The culture shock was real!
I challenged myself in so many ways, from participating in school activities, like a three-day kayak trip with outdoor education, which is basically three days of trying not to capsize, to giving a speech at School assembly which was probably more nerve-wracking than the kayaking. But beyond the laughs and misadventures, I’ve come to love this beautiful country and its wonderful people. Trying new things, like eating Vegemite (which I’m convinced is a practical joke you’re all in on) or giving a speech, has taught me to embrace the unknown and make the best of every situation.

If you’re reading this, I highly recommend stepping out of your comfort zone. You never know what hilarious or heartwarming moments you might discover. I've learned so much about myself and gained a deep appreciation for this beautiful country. I hope one day, all of you can experience a bit of my Brazil with the same sense of adventure and joy I found here.
Obrigada. Thank you, New Zealand, for the memories and incredible experiences that I will carry with me forever. This country is now a part of who I am.
